Timesavers on Trial

Am currently experimenting with two new web services / websites, which I hear may save me some time: Alltop, and Remember the Milk.  The time I spend on Alltop is definitely going to replace at least 2/3 of the time I now spend in my RSS reader.  The jury is still out on Remember the Milk, or To Do lists in general.  My own experience is that 90% of my To Do list can be managed through features already available in my email and calendar clients, but I am sure I am missing something.

Do you read Life Hacker (.com). They are always featuring some new and great time/organization thing. I am still not so good with any of their email suggestions but I have picked up a few other things.

I have been converted to iGoogle since I have have everything I need at once (still waiting to figure out how to get my Google Calendar stuff to show up) but I have everything tabbed out based on subject and then subscribed to various new items, words of the day, font of the day (I collect fonts) and other random things. The two HUGE time savers I have there are a Remember the Milk plug-in and Activity Tracker.

I hate the Remember the Milk UI--so I have my lists made and then I use the plug-in with iGoogle to add my items and delete them etc.

Then Activity Tracker (http://tinyurl.com/yqpzhn)is a huge time saver. Since I freelance I can add my client name/project and then there is a clock in and out feature---so at the end of the month billing it easy since it is all there. It does help me stay on task as well since I feel "clocked in". Then I use it for my photography business so I can track editing time which is how I base my pricing. I want to cover my time so I have to keep track for each client so that hopefully end of the year I have enough averages to price myself according.

Also another thing my husband just introduced me too is a Firefox plug-in that will blog certain websites at various points in the day so if you know you visit a site that ends up being a time sink---set a timer and it will pop up that you are not allowed to visit those sites during that time. http://tinyurl.com/5t287d it was of course found on Life Hacker (and not I do not have any affiliation with that blog but I love it--ironically it is a time suck for me too).

Sachi, check out a book called "Bit Literacy", written by Mark Hurst. Mark is one of the partners at Creative Good and his book is one of the most simple and useful guides to organizing your "bits" that I have ever read. He has a site called gootodo.com that is a very simple to-do list manager that I use. I find it much more useful than managing to-dos in Outlook.

Plus he is a mac enthusiast... :-)
